Thisis a 13 month apprenticeship programme of education consisting of 50% taughttheory and 50% practice that will lead to a PGDip/BSc (Hons) SpecialistCommunity Public Health Nursing Degree in Health Visiting.
Onsuccessful completion of the SCPHN qualification, students will be offered aninterview for substantive HV post should one be available within Bridgewater.

Inorder to be considered for the post in addition to evidencing their nursingdegree certificate all candidates need to be able to provide evidence of their mathsand English qualifications
(Applicants must be able toevidence Level 2 English and Maths, prior to starting the course. This could beFunctional Skills Level 2 or GCSEs grades 9 – 4/A* – C or equivalentqualification)
Main duties of the job
Students must successfully completethe 50% taught theory and 50% practice elements of the programme before theycan register and practice as a Health Visitor.
Successfulcandidates will study with leading degree apprenticeship provider MMU and will be expected to be able to travel to both theirplace of work/placements that will be situated in the Warrington or Halton areaand the University. Therefore, a full driving licence anduse of a vehicle are essential.
Throughout the SCPHN programme, thestudent must experience practice in a range of different settings and areas ofpractice to enable them to develop understanding of the breadth of SCPHNpractice.
To develop an understanding of theprinciples of working in partnership with others to prevent the occurrence ofneeds and risks related to health and well-being.
Students must be able to demonstratea good knowledge of local and national policies and how to apply them ineveryday practice.

To enable the Specialist CommunityPublic Health Nursing student to develop the skills and competencies to:
Provide comprehensive assessments of the healthneeds of clients.
Raise awareness about health and social well-beingand related factors, services, and resources.
Raise awareness about the actions that groups, andindividuals can take to improve their health and social well-being.
Develop, sustain, and evaluate collaborative work.
Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary environment toensure children are safeguarded.
Develop capacity and confidence of individuals andgroups, including families and communities, to influence and use availableservices, information, and skills, acting as an advocate where appropriate
Identify and evaluate service provision and supportnetworks for individuals, families, and groups within in the local area.
Identify individuals, families and groups who areat risk and in need of further support.
Develop and sustain relationships with groups andindividuals with the aim of improving health and social well-being.
Undertake screening of individuals and populationsand respond appropriately to findings.
Communication
To develop the knowledge and skills that areessential to enable the Specialist
Community Public Health Nursing student to:
Communicate complex information to children,parents, guardians, patients, carers, colleagues, and other professionalsacknowledging barriers to understanding.
Communicate condition related information toclients and relatives that requires empathy and reassurance for example issuesrelating to child abuse and mental health issues where there could be emotiveor hostile issues.
Have the knowledge and clinical skills forassessing and interpreting any acute or other client focused problems givingadvice and planning any further actions as required.
Utilise problem solving and analytical skills usedto assess clients with complex assessments that also require interpretation andcomparison to offer clients choice and ownership of care.
Leadership
Todevelop the knowledge and skills that are essential to enable the SpecialistCommunity Public Health Nursing student to:
Lead and manage projects to improve the health andwell-being of a defined population.
Develop the knowledge and skills required tosupport change management
Develop the knowledge and skills required to manageteams, individuals, and resources ethically and effectively.
Clinical Governance / Quality
Students must adhere to thesponsoring/seconding organisation policies and procedures and the University of Chester regulations.
