Job summary

The role of the Estates Officer (Fire) is to support the site Fire Officer in ensuring Trust’s fire systems are well maintained to statutory and industry best practice standards. This will in turn ensure a well maintained safe and secure environment for our patients, staff and visitors.

Apprentice is working towards the following job description and should not be expected to perform the full duties of the role until competencies are signed off

Main duties of the job

The primary duties of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • PPM planning, and compliance audit
  • Contracts and service delivery management
  • Audit of hot works, fire alarm alteration and penetration permit to work systems
  • To provide specialist advice based on level knowledge and experience of active and passive fire systems
  • To be able to complete fire risk assessments, deliver mandatory fire training and fire warden training for colleagues around the Trust.
  • To oversee the installation, witnessing, commissioning and handover of fire systems as appropriate
  • To chair meetings with contractors and to monitor the performance and compliance of contracts with specialist providers.
  • To liaise with key stakeholders on a day-to-day basis on matters pertaining to fire safety
  • Preparation and collation of tender documents and specifications.
  • Preparing regular routine status reports on all matters relating to fire safety

  • A technical background in either Mechanical, Electrical or Building Fabric Maintenance
  • Calibration and maintenance of fire safety active and passive devices
  • Experience through embedded/ applied learning from Level 3 technical vocational qualifications, such as fire door inspection, fire compartmentation surveying
  • Knowledge of Building Regulations as applicable to fire safety
  • Extensive experience of Fire Safety risk assessment procedures
  • Extensive experience of preparing and delivering fire training
  • Comprehensive up-to-date knowledge of all legislation, standards and best practice in fire safety relevant to this role
