Overview

Approved for delivery on the 11/06/2019, the acoustics technician, Higher apprenticeship standard provides a level 4, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 24 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

As an Acoustic Technician, you will apply your understanding of the basic principles of sound waves and vibrations to offer detailed support to organisations and other professional areas, working alongside other specialists such as Acoustic Consultants and Engineers.

Acoustics are applied in a variety of different situations, and technicians use their knowledge to advise in a broad range of situations, from major construction projects such as concert halls and auditoriums, to infrastructure projects and medical engineering. They provide specialist support to planning consultants, laboratories and local authorities, and commonly form part of a wider team.

Typical duties of an acoustics technician include the processing and analysis of data, making complex calculations, calibrating equipment and surveying and testing noise and vibrations in different settings.

Apprentices will develop their understanding of acoustic instrumentation, calibration techniques and engineering mathematics. Upon completion, the apprenticeship will enable you to register with the Engineering Council at EngTech level and gain membership of the institute of Acoustics at Associate Membership level (AMIOA).
