Advanced Carpentry and Joinery

The production and fitting of wooden structures, fittings and furniture

Overview

This Advanced advanced carpentry and joinery apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 3, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 27/02/2018 and typically takes 12 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

Advanced Carpentry and Joinery apprentices produce and install a range of building components using predominately wooden materials. They will build upon their existing knowledge of basic joinery techniques to undertake more advanced tasks, including installing a range of bespoke fittings and irregular joints, and will be able to manage their own and other people’s workload.

During the apprenticeship, they will learn to interpret technical specifications and how to ensure they comply with industry legislation. They will also understand how to access the information they need to plan and implement their jobs to the highest of standards, including using Building Information Modelling (BIM).

There are two pathways within the Advanced Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeship:

    • Pathway 1 – Advanced Site Carpenter

This pathway is for apprentices that typically work on building sites or in domestic, industrial or commercial premises, installing a range of building components, such as doors, intricate wall and floor units, and erecting roof structures

    • Pathway 2 – Advanced Architectural Joiner

Apprentices will select this pathway if they are based mainly in workshops producing complex components and other bespoke products such as staircases and panelling/cladding.
