Architectural Assistant (Degree)

Working alongside Architects and professional engineers to deliver architectural projects

Overview

Approved for delivery on the 27/06/2018, the architectural assistant (degree), Degree apprenticeship standard provides a level 6, integrated degree upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 48 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Architectural Assistants play a key role in the design and delivery of a variety of architectural projects, as they work alongside qualified Architects and other professionals such as civil engineers to ensure the precise construction of building schemes.

As an apprentice, you could work for a broad range of organisations from a small practice to a much larger and experienced industry leader as you prepare, examine, and refine designs using 3D modelling, drawings and Computer-Aid Design (CAD) software. You will produce formal information ready for submission under the supervision of a more senior Architect or project leader, coordinate design information with interior designers and other internal and external teams, and attend sites and answer routine queries on the construction process.

You will learn the history of architecture, the human sciences such as ergonomics, and urban design and town planning strategies, as you build your overall knowledge of Architecture as a whole.

The apprenticeship will also allow you to complete an Architectural Registration Board (ARB) prescribed qualification at part 1, part 2 and part 3, which is required to become a fully qualified Architect.
