Overview

Approved for delivery on the 29/06/2018, the asbestos analyst / surveyor, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 24 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

As an Asbestos analyst or surveyor, you will be responsible for inspecting buildings, premises, and machinery for signs of asbestos, an extremely hazardous material that has resulted in the deaths of thousands of people in the UK.

Abiding by strict safety measures and industry regulations, you will learn how to spot signs of asbestos use as you work within a broad range of highly controlled environments, meeting the technical requirements of the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). You will also learn how to perform assessments on any identified materials and provide information to employers to equip them with the tools to be able to manage the risks.

Areas studied as part of the apprenticeship include the operation of sampling equipment and specialist machinery, on top of learning how to maintain, calibrate and repair them. You will also learn how to collect air samples and analyse them in a laboratory setting. You will be proactive in your own personal development as you build a knowledge of the history of asbestos and how its use changed over time, and the impact it had on the construction industry.
