Overview

This Degree building control surveyor (degree) apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 6, integrated degree qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 02/05/2019 and typically takes 48 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

As a Building Control Surveyor, you will evaluate building sites, plans and structures to ensure they comply with minimum Building Standards, set out in the Building Act 1984.

You will evaluate plans, drawings, and other documentation submitted for approval to enable to planning permission decisions to be given and where relevant, suggest actions to be taken. You will also inspect a variety of building work for means of escape, passive fire protection, ventilation and access provisions to ensure they adhere to legislation and industry regulations.

Using your knowledge, you will be able to offer advice and guidance for workers in the construction centre to help minimise the risk of delay by suggesting potential hazards and failings in compliance for a range of building projects.

You will need to ensure you always provide a high level of service as you hold professional responsibility for your actions, and adhere to both industry and ethical standards at all times as you respect the confidential information of your clients and protect from bias or conflicting interests.

Successful completion of the apprenticeship will allow you to apply for membership of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE).
