Overview

Approved for delivery on the 17/08/2017, the building services engineering ductwork craftsperson, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 48 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Your role as a Building services engineering ductwork craftsperson is to install and service building ventilation systems, whilst both commissioning new systems and decommissioning existing setups. You will also oversee the maintenance of systems, as you work in a variety of environments such as factories, schools, office blocks and schools.

Installing ventilation systems in both commercial and industrial settings requires you to develop your knowledge of the principles of ductwork, including its scientific theory, relevant specifications and the classification of pressure and materials. You will learn to design a practical layout that efficiently provides clean air whilst removing used air, and accurately controls life-safety systems and the temperature around the building. You will liaise with other construction workers and engineers to solve problems with your area of work, as you plan and monitor the delivery of work projects and ensure it is conducted to the highest of standards.

As an apprentice, you will need to take responsibility for your work and conduct your duties both as part of a wider team and without supervision. You will also need to have excellent communication skills, as you update clients on the progress of your work and provide advice and guidance.
