Overview

Approved for delivery on the 12/09/2017, the building services engineering service and maintenance engineer, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 48 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

As a service and maintenance engineering apprentice, you will learn how to undertake repairs and maintain a range of building services, such as ventilation, heating, water supply, and drainage. You will review current building systems and suggest work to be carried out to clients to help improve efficiency.

Working in a range of industrial and commercial environments, you will conduct a variety of upkeep tasks on a building’s systems, helping to isolate electrical components and disconnect, reconnect and reactivate them to bring them back into use. You will also perform fault-finding work and diagnose issues with a building’s waterflow and carry out practical work to ensure its efficient operation.

As part of the apprenticeship, you will gain experience working with a wide range of equipment, tools and plant machinery, knowing how to operate them in ways that protects yourself and others following strict health and safety guidelines.

You will need strong communication skills as you notify the client of any work completed, completing any necessary documentation or contracts related to processes and procedures, and explain or show them to the how to operate in a more energy-efficient way.
