Carpentry and Joinery

Manufacturing and installing a range of timber building components

Overview

The carpentry and joinery was approved for delivery on 27/02/2018. This Intermediate apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 2, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 18 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

As a Carpentry and Joinery Apprentice, you will work with a range of timber materials to produce building components for use in the construction of new structures and the repairs or refurbishment of existing buildings.

Based on your occupation, you will choose from two different routes: working on a construction site as a Site Carpenter or in a workshop as an Architectural Joiner.

As Site Carpenter, you will prepare and install basic building components such as doors, staircases, wall and floor units, and erect structural carpentry and roof structures on a building site or in domestic and commercial settings.

As an Architectural Joiner, you will produce building components by setting out, marking out and manufacturing basic architectural products, including doors, windows, straight staircases and related ironmongery.

The apprenticeship will provide you with the skills to shape and cut materials using a range of joinery techniques and specialist tools, and the knowledge to carry out your work safely and to the relevant industry standards. You will also be able to complete checks against your work and take remedial action where necessary.
