Check, prepare and operate a number of construction plant machines
Overview
This Intermediate construction plant operative apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 2, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 10/07/2020 and typically takes 15 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
This role is found in the Construction, Infrastructure and the Built Environment industry and involves checking and operating a range of plant machinery used in construction projects. This can include operating bulldozers, concrete pumps, dump trucks, excavators, forklifts and ride-on rollers.
Plant machinery is used commonly on infrastructure, demolition and utility (water, gas, electricity) projects, and you will learn to understand their uses, specifications, documentation and various components to be able to operate it safely and efficiently in a variety of environments. You will understand the hazards and requirements for moving them between sites, and layout of site traffic plans to implement when required.
You will also learn how to carry out maintenance checks and make adjustments to the machines when preparing them for work and undertake routine servicing. You will know how to maintain a safe workspace and follow relevant legislation and regulatory requirements, including the Health and Safety at Work Act, PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, and other risk assessments and permit systems.
Completion of this apprenticeship will provide you with the skills and experience to become a lead operator, supervisor, site or plant manager, or even set up your own contracting company for those with entrepreneurial spirit.
