Using complex imaging equipment to obtain high-diagnostic-quality images
Overview
The diagnostic radiographer (integrated degree) was approved for delivery on 05/04/2019. This Degree apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 6, integrated degree qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 36 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
Diagnostic radiographers obtain images of high diagnostic quality using complex imaging equipment. This includes imaging using x-rays, fluoroscopy, cross-sectional imaging methods (Computed Tomography or CT) and Interventional Radiology. They will also assist with other imaging equipment such as Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Breast Imaging.
The top priority of a Diagnostic Radiographer is to provide high-quality patient care. You may work with a broad range of patients, including those who may have mental or physical disabilities, children and the terminally ill. It is essential to maintain professionalism while showing empathy and compassion.
Daily duties will include working independently to assess, authorise, obtain consent and undertake examinations for radiography procedures. The work involves direct patient contacts, as well as interacting with other healthcare staff, including doctors, nurses, engineers, medical physicist and more. Diagnostic radiographers work in all healthcare settings, including both the public and private sectors. You will primarily work in the diagnostic imaging department of a hospital but may also provide mobile imaging on Wards, including the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unity and Neonatal Unit.
