Overview

The fashion and textiles product technologist was approved for delivery on 04/10/2018. This Higher apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 4, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 22 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

The purpose of this apprenticeship standard is to develop the expert knowledge and specialist skills of apprentices to achieve a successful career as a fashion and textiles technician. You will provide technical support throughout the development process of textiles products. This includes ensuring approved samples or patterns with the correct specifications and production instructions are in place so the manufacturing process can be completed on time and within budget.

The daily duties of a Product Technologist are varied, and include:

  • Evaluating product designs
  • Supporting the production of sewn product prototypes
  • Producing product specifications and production instructions
  • Identifying suitable materials and equipment
  • Costing and budget management
  • Quality assurance and control
  • Conduct risk assessments
  • A Fashion and textiles product technologist will interact with a range of professionals including designers, warehouse managers, pattern cutters, sample machinists, quality control and production managers, as well as customers or clients. You will learn to take ownership and accept responsibility for the quality of products, work positively and encourage your team members to exceed expectations, and take a methodological and calm approach in the workplace.
