Overview

Approved for delivery on the 10/05/2016, the healthcare science assistant, Intermediate apprenticeship standard provides a level 2, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 12 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Healthcare science assistants perform a range of low risk, routine technical and scientific procedures, consistently per health, safety, governance and ethical requirements. Activities of a Healthcare science assistant include basic life support; preparation of the environment for healthcare procedures; collection of reliable and accurate data records; stock control of equipment and consumables; inputting and retrieving patient technical data.

You will take responsibility for the quality of care you provide, understand the importance of safeguarding, and be respectful of patient privacy and confidentiality. You will recognise the importance of delivering high-quality patient care, and seek continuous methods to improve the healthcare you provide and the service facilities in general.

Apprentices will work within a team of healthcare science assistants and as part of a multi-professional team. You will develop a sound understanding of the requirements of Good Scientific Practice, the NHS healthcare leadership model, and strict health, safety and environmental regulations. On completion of this apprenticeship standard, apprentices will be eligible to join the Academy for Healthcare Science accredited register.
