What the course covers

A Historic environment advisor is responsible for providing specialist and authoritative advice, guidance and assessment to those working on heritage assets, including designing and implementing the legal and policy frameworks for their protection. Examples of heritage assets include historic buildings, places, townscapes, monuments, archaeological sites, registered parks, gardens and battlefields.

This apprenticeship standard will help apprentices develop an expert understanding of the cultural heritage sector. The skills you will develop will focus around leadership, management, strategy and policy to enable apprentices to successfully drive policy change and implementation for the protection of heritage assets. This includes leading and monitoring the compliance of historic environment advice, leading the research and development stages of policy, and developing an ability to manage a large number of staff across multiple disciplines.

A Historic Environment Advisor is typically office-based, but duties may require outdoor working, visiting historic sites and attendance at meetings with stakeholders, clients or colleagues.
