What the course covers

A Registered Nurse works in a healthcare environment to help treat and advise any patient with an ailment or disability. This could mean apprentices work in a hospital, an individual’s home, across a community or in a care home. The Registered Nurse will specialise in one of adult nursing, child nursing, or mental health support or learning disability support.

The daily activities of a nurse can vary massively, depending on the setting of your work. However, the apprentice will always learn how to utilise their expertise to assess the patient, create a treatment plan, and then implement that care, with constant reviews of the patient’s needs.

Being so involved in a patient’s life, particularly carrying out sensitive treatments, requires particular core values and behaviours. Most of these revolve around prioritising the needs of the patient. As such, you will display compassion and respect for the patient, which will allow the nurse to assess their needs thoroughly. In turn, the nurse must have excellent communication skills, both with the patient and their colleagues, especially in uncertain or challenging situations.
