Retail Team Leader

Deputise and support retail managers in the workplace.

Overview

The retail team leader was approved for delivery on 07/09/2016. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 12 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

The role of the Retail Team Leader is to train and coordinate the staff to help deliver excellent customer service. In turn, should the Retail Manager be absent for any reason, they will take up their administrative role for the time being. They are an essential liaison between management and staff and help to retain positive and efficient relationships within retail businesses.

The apprentice will learn the importance of upholding the standards set out by the company and management. As such, they will be responsible for leading by example and helping their colleagues to attain the same quality of service. Their occupation will set them up to assist any of the Retail Manager’s tasks, meaning that they will have a similar day-to-day function. This includes understanding and prioritising the needs of the customer, encouraging and supporting other members of staff, finding innovative ways to improve sales and marketing, and carrying out the administration for the company, such as taking stock.

A team leader apprentice will excel in this occupation by being determined and proactive in their tasks. In turn, by upholding those behaviours at work, they will lead their colleagues by example.
