Overview

This Intermediate structural steelwork fabricator apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 2, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 27/09/2018 and typically takes 24 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship will usually be based within a designated area of a construction site or a steelwork factory.

You will be required to produce fabricated structural components to the highest standard to ensure the correct function of the finished frameworks. These frameworks could be used on stadiums, schools, bridges, tower blocks and other structures.

It will be your responsibility to identify the correct sections that may need to be cut, welded, drilled or bolted to complete a connection or tack welded joint for a shaped or possibly complex fabricated component.

You will use your knowledge of material drawings and components lists alongside the selection of the most appropriate tools and equipment to ensure that pieces are finished safely and accurately in line with company standards. Alongside safety aspects this also helps to minimise time and product wastage due to any mistakes.

As this apprenticeship takes place in demanding environment with a wide variety of equipment and tools, a structural steelwork fabricator is a safety critical occupation.
