Therapeutic Radiographer (Integrated Degree)

Deliver high quality and accurate radiotherapy to patients who have been diagnosed with cancer

Overview

This Degree therapeutic radiographer (integrated degree) apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 6, integrated degree qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 15/04/2019 and typically takes 36 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship is found in the health and care sector and can be based within the NHS or private organisations.

This role involves providing excellent care and accurate radiotherapy to patients who have been diagnosed with cancer, taking their emotional, physical and psychological needs into consideration. It is important to acknowledge that throughout the different stages of their cancer treatment, patients can be exceptionally vulnerable.

You will be responsible for a patient throughout the whole process. This will include from the time of referral for treatment, pre-treatment preparation, and the radiotherapy course itself. A therapeutic radiographer will provide the highest standard of care and practice possible to ensure the greatest support of children, teenagers and adults receiving treatment.

As you will be looking after a wide array of patients, you must have good communication skills. Alongside the patients themselves, you will be interacting with their family, carers, members of the public and other healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, physicians and dieticians. These professionals may work across a number of settings, including hospitals and hospices.

It will be your responsibility to plan, check and correctly use imaging to deliver accurate radiotherapy as you are professionally and legally accountable for you work. This role is one that requires compassion and sensitivity due to the nature of the situation patients find themselves in.
