An exciting vacancy has arisen for an Apprentice Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Technician to join the Carr’s Billington Agriculture SHE team, working to support a diverse range of sites and locations throughout our Estate.

The Job
Working with, and learning from, the SHE Team under the direction of the Head of Health, Safety & Environment, the successful candidate will promote a positive SHE culture across all Carr’s Billington divisions and sites. Assisting with the implementation, monitoring and updating of Company policies, procedures, training and practices, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to problem solve and work efficiently at all times.
The successful candidate will:
- Successfully complete an apprenticeship in Safety Health & Environment Level 3, NEBOSH General Certificate and NEBOSH Environment.
- Assist in developing and updating health and safety policies and procedures based on industry standards and regulations.
- Communicate and distribute policies to all employees, ensuring their understanding and compliance.
- Collaborate with departments to integrate health and safety requirements into daily operations.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and risks.
- Analyse and assess risks associated with various tasks, equipment, and work processes.
- Provide recommendations to mitigate identified risks and implement control measures.
- Support in the development of informative materials and resources to enhance safety awareness and understanding.
- Facilitate the reporting of incidents, accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions.
- Assist the HSE Team in incident investigation and the development of suitable corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents.
- Support the HSE Team in conducting internal audits and inspections.
- Collaborate with external agencies during regulatory inspections and maintain required documentation.
- Coordinate emergency drills to ensure employees are familiar with proper procedures.
- Support in the maintenance of emergency equipment, supplies, and communication systems.
- Compile and analyse health and safety data to identify trends, areas of improvement, and opportunities for proactive measures.
- Generate regular reports and metrics for management review and decision-making.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support in the implementation of health and safety improvement initiatives.
- Participate in safety committees and engage with employees to gather feedback and suggestions.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALITIES REQUIRED
Essential
- Excellent experience of MS Office products and SharePoint.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience within an administrative role.
- Knowledge of the Carr’s Billington Business Divisions.
Desirable
- IOSH Managing Safely & IOSH Leading Safely
- Knowledge of working within ISO 45001, 14001 frameworks.
