Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and highly motivated individual, to become an Apprentice Healthcare Support Worker working within our Gynaecology services, both at Homerton University Hospital and occasionally at our Community Sites.

You will work closely with Registered Nurses and the multi-disciplinary team, delivering high quality care to patients by helping and assisting with routine activities associated with the Ward.

Being a Healthcare Support Worker is a key role that’s at the very heart of healthcare. There are no set entry requirements to become a Healthcare Support Worker, but good literacy and numeracy skills are expected. You will be supported to complete the Care Certificate, which is a requirement for this role.

You will also be expected to complete the level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship, achieving a level 3 diploma in healthcare support.

Main duties of the job

You will assist with patients, assisting with their mobility and physical comfort and monitoring and recording vital signs. You will Perform pregnancy tests, urinalysis, and phlebotomy, recording and reporting competently. You will assist with specimen collection and labelling. You will assist the Nursing team with ordering and managing stock levels.

You will have good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work using your own initiative as well as working as part of a team.

In conjunction with registered staff, you’ll contribute to the assessment of patient’s activities of daily living and the care required.

You’ll undertake and gain the care certificate and work utilising the knowledge and skills gained once achieved, as well as the level 3 apprenticeship standard
