Job responsibilities

  • At the direction of the Registered Nurse, participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care, using a wide range of clinical skills.
  • Participate in the admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
  • Assist in all aspects of personnel hygiene and toileting needs of patients.
  • Assist with the service of meals and the feeding of patients as needed.
  • Assist with the safe moving, handling and mobilisation of patients.
  • Involve patients and carers/relatives in delivery of patient care.
  • Provide reassurance and support to patients, carers/family.
  • Preserve clients privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Following appropriate training and education, supervision and completion of competencies. Monitor patients vital signs, including immediate post operative, during blood transfusion and the monitoring of blood glucose levels.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
  • Provide information to enable the effectiveness of care to be evaluated and records maintained.
  • Participate in the maintenance of accurate records of care.
  • Work collaboratively with others in the ward to ensure that patients needs are met.
  • Provide escorts for patients and undertake transfer of patients as directed.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others.
  • Maintain health, safety, security and report any concerns regarding patient care.
  • Report any incidents, complaints or accidents to the Nurse in charge.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Support peoples equality, diversity and rights.
  • Attend and participate in team, ward and unit meetings.

  • Participate in general cleanliness and tidiness of ward environment.

  • Fulfil the role of associate link nurse.
  • Maintain up to date skills and knowledge.
  • Actas patient advocate at all times. Ensurethe privacy and dignity of each patient.
  • Clarifypatients comprehension of consultation and refer to qualified staff ifrequired.
  • Bepresent or deal with frequent exposure to emotional/distressing events, e.g.breaking of bad news.
  • Providerelevant written and verbal information as directed and participate in anyresearch projects approved by the organisation.
  • Assistingwith personal carers of patients in relation to toileting and moving andhandling.
  • Maintaina professional working relationship will all members of the multi-disciplinaryteam.
  • Thepost holder will maintain the confidentiality of Trust and patient informationunless authorised for specific purposes. Report any concerns about the use of such information to theSister/Nurse in charge.
  • Reportto Centre Manager/Nurse in charge all untoward occurrences, comments andcomplaints from patients and visitors.
  • Observeand report any changes in a patients condition to Centre Manager/Nurse incharge.
  • Participatein the provision of beverages and refreshments.
  • Recogniseand report defects in buildings and equipment to Centre Manager/Nurse in chargeor other relevant personnel.
