Would you like to work in a fast-growing, dynamic team which provides an essential waste collection service to residents?
In partnership with Biffa Leicester, the Waste Management team provide a weekly recycling and waste collection service to every household in the city of Leicester. We have a Trade Waste Facility at our Gypsum Close site, which is a service for small and medium sized companies to bring their waste to site and dispose of it within the current regulations.
Join us as an Apprentice and you’ll have the opportunity to develop knowledge of all the waste services we provide at our facilities. As well as providing administrative support to the team which, you’ll undertake a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Waste Resource Operations. You’ll have one to one support and training to ensure you have a positive experience and achieve your full potential. With an enthusiastic attitude, a passion for learning and a willingness to adapt, you’ll be fully committed to coming on this learning journey with us.
This is a Full-time, Fixed Term position for 12 months, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday between the hours of 7:45am and 5:15pm. Following successful completion of the apprenticeship, there may be the potential for the position to become permanent.
You’ll be paid National Minimum Wage/Living Wage.
As an Apprentice Waste Management Officer, you’ll support the day to day acceptance of waste, taking payments from customers and daily operations of the council’s weighbridge and trade waste facility at Gypsum Close. This includes booking and arranging collection of resident’s clinical waste, assisting in administering the vehicle permit and garden waste schemes. You’ll compile statistical and management information regarding financial receipts, waste types, tonnages and other relevant information.
What you’ll need
With an understanding of the principles of good customer care, you’ll have experience of providing information or advice in a customer care environment such as retail, sales, leisure. You’ll have proficient IT skills and good attention to detail to carry out general administrative tasks and maintain databases accurately. Using excellent verbal and written communication skills, you’ll be able to liaise with customers effectively whilst handling payments and resolving or responding to enquiries. With strong organisational skills, you’ll be able to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment; ensuring telephone/email enquiries are answered in an efficient manner.
