Achieve technical excellence through NDT specialist skills, and work with world-class experts to create industry leading inspection technology across a variety of materials.
Together, we pioneer the power that matters.
As a defining part of our heritage, our technical excellence is something we’re immensely proud of. Join us as a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Engineer, and you’ll feel that sense of pride too. NDT is used across a wide variety of sectors and relies heavily upon Physics and Maths, and is vital to us in inspecting components across every area of our businesses. Your apprenticeship will give you exposure across our business as you learn how to use NDT to find surface and internal defects in a variety of materials.
As well as the outstanding career support you’ll enjoy from day one, and the debt-free qualifications you’ll have at the end of it, you’ll have the chance to build your manufacturing engineering career in an environment where you can be yourself and be your best. Join us on our journey and together we’ll do amazing things.
What you’ll need
Two A-levels (or equivalent) at Grade B or above, including Maths and either Chemistry, Physics, Technology, Engineering or an additional maths related subject (obtained or predicted). Alternatively, a BTEC Level 3 extended diploma in an engineering-related subject (including Further Maths) at DDM minimum. Either way, you’ll also need GCSEs (or equivalent) in English Language Grade 5/B or above and Maths and Physics at Grade 6/B or above. What’s more, you’ll need
attention to detail and ability to make accountable decisions
creative problem solving skills and agile thinking

What you’ll do
You’ll undertake a variety of different placements across the business to equip you with practical experience in the various NDT methods. The five main NDT methods are x-rays (radiography), ultrasonics, eddy currents, magnetic particle inspection and fluorescent penetrant inspection. You’ll train in all of these methods through courses at a new state-of-the-art training facility in Wales – the perfect way to build your practical and theoretical knowledge. Throughout, you’ll study for the BEng (Hons) NDT Degree at Northampton University, getting to grips with the Maths, Electronics and Physics behind these methods.
You’ll also gain manufacturing and laboratory experience of NDT methods along with quality assessment techniques through leading technical projects and working with expert mentors. You’ll work towards being able to select the optimal NDT method and conduct tests on parts – so be ready for practical experiments, project planning, resource control, problem solving and gaining technical know-how. You’ll also learn how we use NDT in research and development, and have the opportunity to learn about state-of-the-art technologies that enable us to find smaller-sized defects, increase our throughput and reduce our costs.
