Qualification: Early Years Practitioner – Level 2
Lengthof Apprenticeship: 12 months
The Nursery Apprentice will be working as part of a Key Worker team for the daily needs of children between the ages of three months to five years.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
You will be working with children aged 0-5 years.
Under guidance, you will be planning learning experience across all seven areas of learning including preparing and setting up both indoor and outdoor experiences.
Under supervision you will assist staff in the whole planning cycle and management of resources
To contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the nursery, Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) implementing the daily routine of the nursery
To contribute to the provision and maintenance of a healthy, safe and stimulating environment.
To support children to develop personal care skills including toileting, feeding, washing.
To be an active member of a professional staff team.
Principle accountabilities and responsibilities. (All under supervision)
Undertake these duties within agreed nursery objectives, policies and procedures
Contribute to a programme of activities suitable to the age range of children in your area, in conjunction with other staff.
Attend out of working hours activities, e.g., training, meetings, parent’s evenings, summer fayre, Christmas party, etc.
Be flexible within working practices of Nursery. Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery, e.g., preparation of snack, cleaning the nursery floor area, cleaning the toilet, cleansing of equipment, etc.
Work alongside the staff team to ensure that the philosophy is fulfilled.
Report accidents and under supervision record accidents in the accident book, incidents in the incident book and complete the relevant forms.
Look upon the Nursery as a “whole”, where your help can be most utilised, be constantly aware of the needs of children.
Under supervision, preparation and completion of activities to suite the child’s stage of development.
Ensure snack times are a time of pleasant social sharing.
Cleaning and changing children as required.
Providing comfort and warmth to a poorly child until pick up by known parent/carer.
Maintain a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development.
Be aware of the high profile of the Nursery and to uphold its standards at all times.
Be aware of safeguarding issues, how to recognise a child in need of safeguarding and the nursery procedure.
Support all staff and engage in a good staff team.
Have a clear understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
Under supervision, act as a key worker to ensure children have access to the EYFS curriculum framework Undertake any other duties as delegated by the nursery Manager/staff.
You will need GCSEs in English and Maths and ICT (level 1) If not it will be provided by your training provider
An interest in working in a childcare setting
You will have a positive ‘can do attitude’ and good work ethic.
Excellent time-keeping skills and be presentable and professional at all times
Sound verbal and non-verbal communication skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
