Our services are employed by government and private sector clients to tackle the most intricate design, system and enterprise level challenges in cyber security, intelligent systems, naval design, technical authoring and asset management, including the development of standards, policy and regulation as well as decision support for programme, project and digital transformation programmes. 

We provide bespoke software solutions for a range of organisations from the UK Ministry of Defence to other government bodies and commercial companies. Our team of developers have been successfully solving problems for a wide range of industries for a number of years. 

We pride ourselves in delivering creative software solutions, immersive training applications, intelligent systems and insightful big data analytics in a number of different markets. We deliver these capabilities through our creative and innovative team who build strong and lasting relationships with our customers. 


BMT is currently going through an exciting period of growth and we are recruiting an Apprentice to join our Software Development team in Bath. 

Main role / Responsibilities [will include but not be limited to]: 

You will experience a wide range of technical tools and techniques and can expect to get hands-on from day one. We operate using a flexible agile model of software development you will be in a customer facing role – first-class service to our clients is essential. 

You will get involved in core aspects of software development, including: 

  • Customer facing requirements analysis 
  • User interface design 
  • Object orientated programming 
  • Test driven development 
  • DevOps and database design 
  • We also value and provide opportunities in a wide range of supporting technologies, including: 

  • Machine learning 
  • Cyber security 
  • Cloud computing (you will have the chance to get involved in innovative research projects) 
  • Desirable skills, qualities and experience: 

  • Enthusiastic and passionate about delivering the best solutions for our clients 
  • Experience or interest in software development and programming is needed 
  • An interest to work within this specialist and fast-moving domain is required
  • You will be required to undertake analysis and solve problems whilst your finding both verbally 
  • An interest in a range of Software disciplines will be beneficial, including: 

  • Web application development 
  • Web Design and User Experience / User Interface design 
  • Systems analysis and design 
  • Relational or NoSQL databases 
  • Information security 
  • We work across a range of technologies and platforms depending on the customers’ needs / looking for someone who has experience with:

  • An understanding or interest in AR/VR development 
  • An interested DevOps & Automated processes
  • Android/iOS development 
  • Machine learning 
  • IoT / Home automation 
  • An interest in cyber security 
  • Tech stack:  

  • Languages: C#.NET / Java / JavaScript / Python 
  • Databases: MSSQL / Postgres / Mongo / GraphDBs 
  • API: REST and GraphQL 
  • Frontend: React / Redux / Vue 
  • Styling: CSS / SASS / CSS-in-JS 
  • Cloud: Azure / AWS / Terraform 
  • Containerisation: Docker / Kubernetes 
  • Entry requirements: 

    You need to have 7 GCSE’s: 

  • English GCSE (or equivalents) at grade D or above 
  • 6x GCSE’s, including Maths, at grade A-C 
  • You must not already have a qualification in a similar subject at the same level, or higher level than this apprenticeship. 

    If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
