NHS Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships in the National Health Service span an extremely wide range of areas. As a sprawling full-service healthcare service, the NHS has an incredibly diverse set of apprenticeship options.

These range from some of the more immediately obvious areas like ambulance support workers who assist the paramedics to healthcare cleaning operatives who ensure that hygiene and cleanliness standards are adhered to. There are also dieticians, pharmacy technicians, hearing aid dispensers, district nurses and many more.

There are NHS apprenticeships offered at most academic levels so there isn’t a huge entry barrier to applying for an NHS apprenticeship. Some of the apprenticeships will be offered at degree level, though most will be at a lower level of academic attainment which should be achievable and accessible for most people.

Benefits of an NHS Apprenticeship

Undertaking an NHS apprenticeship will give you access to jobs all across the National Health Service in the UK. You are not tied to one geographical location and if you have to move for family reasons, it should be relatively easy to find another post because of the sheer size of the NHS as an organisation. The NHS employs 1.3 Million people across the UK out of a population of around 68 Million so there is enormous scope to find employment within it and having experience of working in the NHS already should stand you in good stead when applying.

If you are applying for one of the degree apprenticeships, this is a brilliant way to earn while you learn instead of paying the huge university tuition fees and is therefore a good way for people who are from less wealthy backgrounds to avoid getting into debt while still achieving a degree.

A degree apprenticeship also means that when you have completed the apprenticeship you also have far more experience in the job than you would have had doing a traditional degree course.

Applying for an NHS Apprenticeship

The NHS is crying out for new staff at the moment in the wake of the Covid pandemic and the loss of many European staff due to Brexit, so there are many opportunities for young people to enter and to progress. If you are interested in finding out which NHS apprenticeships are available in your area at the moment, feel free to take a look at our apprenticeship jobs board.
