Warehouse Apprenticeships

The demand for employees in the world of logistics is huge. Big companies like Amazon and other online retailers have led to there being thousands of large warehouses around the UK, all with a demand for employees. Warehouse apprenticeships are the perfect recruitment strategy for many companies.

What Level Are Warehousing Apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships come in all different forms, and the level of qualification you will get is a key consideration before taking an apprenticeship. You will usually be working on either a supply chain warehouse operative apprenticeship (level 2) or warehousing and storage (level 3).

The warehouse operative apprenticeship (level 2) qualification is very accessible and you don’t need many qualifications to be considered for a position. Just Maths, English, and Digital qualifications at level 2 are required.

The level 3 apprenticeship requires five GCSEs at levels 4-9 to get started.

What Do Warehouse Apprentices Learn?

The key skills that you will learn during a warehouse apprenticeship may include:

  • Stock control
  • Health and safety in a warehouse environment
  • Picking and packing orders
  • Receiving deliveries
  • Using warehouse management systems (WMS)

Undertaking a level 3 qualification you may also learn more about using equipment to move goods, and how to deal with everyday problems that occur when working in a warehouse.

Of course, every employer is slightly different so your duties may vary from one workplace to the next.

Benefits of Warehouse Apprenticeships

There are many benefits of apprenticeships in general that apply to warehouse roles and some added bonuses to working in logistics and transport:

  • Low barrier to entry. You don’t need many prior qualifications to start a warehousing apprenticeship.
  • On-the-job training. You will learn skills that are specific to the warehouse environment and the company you work for.
  • Earn while you learn. You will be paid a salary while completing your apprenticeship.
  • Permanent job at the end. Many warehouse apprenticeships lead to a full-time job offer at the end of the programme.
  • Demand. There is a huge demand for employees in this sector.
