Working as part of our Microbiology Division (MBD), within the Specialty Diagnostics Group, you’ll play an active part in helping us to achieve our mission to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. The Microbiology Division discovers microbiological solutions for the diagnosis of infectious disease and detection of bacterial contamination. We serve public health, clinical laboratories, food companies, environmental screening and pharmaceutical laboratories with a portfolio of products that include culture media, antimicrobial susceptibility testing solutions and market-leading molecular solutions for food safety testing.

Responsibilities:

Maintaining laboratory consumables and equipment, including ordering, organising servicing and validating equipment
Assisting the R&D team with the following:

Preparation of culture media
Preparation of consumables for the team (solvent preparation, labelling etc.)
Cultivation and preservation of microorganisms
DNA extraction of microorganisms
Performing microbiological tests in line with SOPs and WIs
Completing documentation within the team and inputting results electronically with high attention to detail
Responsible for general housekeeping of the laboratory
Facilitates laboratory improvement projects

In order to apply for this apprenticeship, the minimum entry requirements are A levels with Science.

There may be the opportunity to progress onto a permanent role upon successful completion of this programme.
