Within the Research and Development Laboratory, the candidate will work with the Development manager to develop, prepare and test samples according to customer project lead times. They will assist others in more advanced tasks and laboratory administration whilst learning the skills and approach needed to become more advanced within the team.
The main purpose of this job will be centred around the formulation and development of samples. Day to day tasks will include, but not be restricted to the following:
• Ensuring safety of oneself and others around them at all times
• Maintain a hygienic work environment
• Under guidance from Chemist / Development Manager make products to fit the needs of the customer / consumer / business (matching benchmark performance / claims / critical path)
• Under guidance from Chemist / Development Manager create aerosol sprays of the correct spray characteristics
• Under guidance from Chemist / Development Manager conduct required performance and safety evaluations on aerosol products
• Prepare bulks for prototype / sample submission, stability, challenge, user trials, weight loss, compatibility and any other specified test requirements
• Ensure any anomalies in laboratory bulk manufacture and filling are reported to the Development Manager / Technical Manager where applicable
• Ensure all bulks prepared where applicable are checked against a standard for colour / texture / odour etc. and any deviations are reported to Chemist / Development Manager / Technical Manger
• Ensure all sample keepers and write ups are signed off before the samples leave the lab

• Capable of following instructions and working independently with limited supervision and flexibility to work across different areas of the R&D lab

Desired qualifications
Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent at grade 4 (C) or above including maths, English and a Science. A levels are desirable but not essential. Please note, if you already hold the Level 3 BTEC in Applied Science or a Scientific degree you are not eligible to complete this apprenticeship.
