Applied Professional Engineering Programme: Jaguar Land Rover

As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2022, Employing an Apprentice is proud to shine the spotlight on Jaguar Land Rover, who are committed to supporting young people with education and development. Jaguar Land Rover are currently welcoming applications for their Applied Professional Engineering programme. With multiple courses available on this scheme, there are pathways for aspiring engineers of all kinds to follow.  

About the Applied Professional Engineering Programme 

Duration: 4 years 

Location: Gaydon/Castle Bromwich/Solihull/Castle Bromwich/Whitley/Browns Lane (Dependant on Pathway) and The University of Warwick. 

Over the duration of your apprenticeship, you will get to work on ground-breaking projects, alongside expert minds and become one yourself thanks to your studies at the prestigious University of Warwick. Real-world experience. Academic recognition. Getting the best of both worlds means you’ll jump ahead of your peers. Plus, the theory you learn here throughout your time spent at university which will be typically one week out of six – means you’ll make an ever-greater contribution and have some in-demand skills. 

What Qualifications Do Candidates Need to Apply? 

To be eligible for our APEP degree apprenticeship you will need to demonstrate a passion for engineering and strong motivation for the role. You will also need to meet our academic entry criteria detailed below for each pathway. In addition to the academic requirements at the assessment stage we will also look for evidence of other qualifications, knowledge, experience or qualities – for example a third A level or other further academic qualifications; a substantial time in employment or voluntary activity; a technical project or hobby or substantial responsibilities as a career. 

Product Development 

  • GCSE Maths and English Language at level 5 or higher and in addition 3 additional GCSEs level 5 (C) or above to include one STEM subject or Engineering Vocational qualification level 3/ 90 credits/540 GLH or higher. 
  • In addition, A level Maths at grade B or higher and a second A level at grade C or above in Physics; Chemistry; Engineering or Design & Technology. 

Manufacturing 

  • GCSE Maths and English Language at level 5 or higher and in addition 3 additional GCSEs level 5 (C) or above to include one STEM subject or Engineering Vocational qualification level 3/ 90 credits/540 GLH or higher. 
  • In addition, A level Maths at grade B or higher and a second A level at grade C or above in Physics; Chemistry; Engineering or Design & Technology. 

Electrical and Electronics 

  • GCSE Maths and English Language at level 5 or higher and in addition 3 additional GCSEs level 5 (C) or above to include one STEM subject or Engineering Vocational qualification level 3/ 90 credits/540 GLH or higher. 
  • In addition, A level Maths at grade B or higher and a second A level at grade C or above in Physics; Chemistry; Engineering or Design & Technology. 

Control Systems 

  • GCSE Maths and English Language at level 5 or higher and in addition 3 additional GCSEs level 5 (C) or above to include one STEM subject or Engineering Vocational qualification level 3/ 90 credits/540 GLH or higher. 
  • In addition, A level Maths at grade B or higher and a second A level at grade C or above in Physics; Chemistry; Engineering or Design & Technology. 

Jaguar Land Rover will consider some non-England & Wales/UK higher level qualifications as A level equivalents, for example, but not exclusively, Scottish Highers and International Baccalaureate. However please be advised that if you are studying for a BTEC they will consider this in place of the second STEM A level but you will still be required to have or be studying for a Maths A level. The Interview Process 

1. Complete your application by telling Jaguar Land Rover about you and your background. You’ll be screened on meeting the entry requirements for the programme.

2. Online Application and Psychometric Tests: 

  • Situational judgement test 
  • Numerical reasoning test 
  • Verbal reasoning test 
  • Diagrammatical reasoning test 
  • Match 6.5 personality profiling test 

3. Face-to-Face Assessment: 

  • Motivational interview including the reasons you wish to join Jaguar Land Rover and your understanding of the industry and the role you have applied for. 
  • Behavioural Interview assessing you against our Jaguar Land Rover behaviours. 
  • Technical Presentation where they’ll be looking for you to demonstrate your technical knowledge. Ahead of your assessment you’ll be provided with a brief to help you prepare. 
  • In Jaguar Land Rover’s assessment process, they will be looking for evidence of key behaviours and characteristics that are important for success in the business. They will share these with you ahead of your assessment to help you prepare. 

4. Candidates that make it through all the steps successfully will be offered a place on the programme. 

The Induction Process 

The first day will be with Jaguar Land Rover where candidates will take place in a weeklong induction; they will discover more about the brand, meet their cohort leaders, manager, and team. Candidates will also learn more about the different departments and networks available to them. Candidates will receive their passes, equipment, and uniform (where applicable) during this week. Once this is completed the candidates will attend the education provider sites where they’ll complete a further induction.
