Specialising in teaching or research, Academic Professionals work within the higher education sector to delivery education teaching.
Overview
This Higher academic professional apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 7, non-degree qualification qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 08/05/2018 and typically takes 18 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
The Academic Professional apprenticeship will provide an introduction to tutors and lecturers new to the higher education sector, as they start their teaching roles and share their knowledge with students and other stakeholders in an educational environment.
Apprentices will cover a wide variety of topics, such as developmental research and engaging with professional bodies, alongside learning how to adapt their delivery methods and assessment strategies to support a range of needs using critical thinking. Supporting learning at level 4 to 8, they are expected to understand the principles of reflective practice related to their profession and will choose one of two specialist roles: ‘Research’, where they will operate and manage research projects, or ‘Teaching’, passing their knowledge onto students of both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Academic Professionals allow higher education institutions to deliver high-quality learning and design an innovate curriculum. The standard aligns itself with the current Higher Education Academy UK Professional Standards Framework (UK-PSF), and will ensure teachers can confidently perform their role to the highest professional standard in a variety of educational environments through a combination of off-the-job training and workplace learning.
