Overview

Approved for delivery on the 21/07/2016, the adult care worker, Intermediate apprenticeship standard provides a level 2, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 12 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

The Adult Care Worker apprenticeship is for individuals who want to make a positive impact on people lives, for those that need physical, social and emotional assistance.

Apprentices will learn the various tasks and responsibilities of the job role whilst adhering the professional boundaries and safeguarding regulations. They will also understand the principles of communication and the importance of active listening skills when providing care to a variety of clients. Other areas of development that will form part of the apprenticeship include the promotion of health of wellbeing, building professional relationships and upholding the right values and behaviours at all times.

The personal qualities and behaviours expected of all apprentices working in the sector include the compassion to deliver with dignity and respect, the commitment to ensuring the support provided is person-centred and the courage to speak up for at-risk individuals.

Adult care workers can be employed in a range of settings, such as day centres, residential or nursing homes, or even a person’s own home, and the apprenticeship can be the first step towards a long and fulfilled career within the industry.
