Overview

Approved for delivery on the 01/07/2016, the aircraft maintenance certifying engineer, Higher apprenticeship standard provides a level 4, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 48 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship will provide you with the skills and knowledge to perform maintenance and certifying checks on a range of aircraft, from small aeroplanes to commercial airliners, jet fighters and military helicopters.

You will develop a broad understanding of aircraft systems to enable you to carry out engineering maintenance and certify an aircraft’s airworthiness, learning highly technical skills and use complex tools and equipment. You will also learn how to read and understand data, research its sources, and use it to make key decisions when creating a maintenance schedule. You will need to work towards civil and military regulator and organisational requirements, as you build upon your knowledge of electrical and digital systems, the characteristics of materials used in aircraft assembly and the theory of aerodynamics and other general aviation processes.

Candidates for this apprenticeship need a strong work ethic and must be motivated and committed to continuously developing their skills throughout the course. They must also be extremely punctual and dependable, with aircraft sometimes needing emergency attention.
