Ambulance Support Worker (Emergency, Urgent and Non-Urgent)

Overview

The ambulance support worker (emergency, urgent and non-urgent) was approved for delivery on 26/06/2018. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 13 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

As an Ambulance Support Worker, you will work alongside other emergency responders to provide care to the members of the public of all ages and backgrounds and transport them to and from locations for treatment and care. You will make a real impact to people’s lives in a role that is both fulfilling and rewarding as you work on the front line, helping injured patients who may require both urgent and non-urgent support in a variety of situations.

You will be mentored by a more senior member of staff such as a Paramedic or Associate Ambulance Practitioner and be responsible for the managing and maintaining the vehicle, and learn to drive safely at high speeds where appropriate.

You will need to hold a full driving licence for the class of vehicle being driven and undertake a fitness test to meet the standards set out in the required Care Certificate. You will need to have a caring and compassionate attitude and show empathy for both the patients and those surrounding the patients in your care.
