Assessor or Coach

Coaching and assessing in a variety of vocational settings

Overview

The assessor or coach was approved for delivery on 29/01/2019. This Higher apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 4, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 15 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Being an Assessor or Coach apprentice will involve you using your knowledge and experience to train and assess vocational learning, against competence-based qualifications (e.g. NVQ’s) in a range of learning environments.

You will usually work on a one-to-one basis, coaching and assessing apprentices for example or new recruits in the workplace, using complex communication techniques and active listening skills to provide feedback and support learners to make continued progress towards their goals and targets. You will create individual learning plans for learners on your caseload, and monitor both their professional and personal development.

Working in collaboration with other professionals from the Education and Training Sector (ETS) such as tutors or mentors, you will learn how to recognise and overcome issues with your learner’s progress and source up-to-date advice and guidance to help put support measure in place. You will also implement strategies for motivating your learners, and support their wellbeing using a range of pastoral techniques.

To complete the apprenticeship, you will have to be able to comply with various awarding body requirements and guidelines, and also complete a mandatory level 1 Safeguarding qualification.
