Overview

Approved for delivery on the 16/07/2019, the assistant buyer and assistant merchandiser, Higher apprenticeship standard provides a level 6, non-degree qualification upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 24 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

The purpose of this apprenticeship standard is to understand the brand and customer needs to select and deliver the most suitable products to meet consumer demand and business objectives. As a buyer, it is essential to source the best products to align with strategic objectives of the business and effectively sell to customers. As a merchandiser, it will be your responsibility to maximise sales and in turn profit, by making sure products are in the right place at the right time for customers to buy.

Through research activities and customer insights, buyers/merchandisers can implement strategies to ensure that current and future demand and customer needs are anticipated, met and satisfied. If successful, this will lead to effective and efficient buying that contributes to company profit.

This role is usually office based but may require travelling to stores, meetings and fairs, and possibly may now include home working. You will be required to interact with a variety of internal and external colleagues such as your wider team, suppliers, manufacturers, distribution centres, and other functional departments such as marketing, IT and finance.
