Overview

Approved for delivery on the 12/01/2017, the associate ambulance practitioner, Higher apprenticeship standard provides a level 4, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

As an apprentice Associate Ambulance Practitioner, you will work as part of an ambulance crew providing high-quality emergency care and urgent assistance to a range of service users. You will learn to drive safely at high speeds where necessary, and work in collaboration with multiple areas of the NHS and other emergency services.

The apprenticeship standard will teach you how to assess, treat and manage a patient or patients at the scene of an incident, apply medical processes such as respiratory and circulatory management, would and bleeding treatment and pain medication, and perform intermediate life support for a broad range of individuals, from babies to the elderly.

You will learn how to use the appropriate medical equipment applicable for the situation, to assist with procedures such as cannulation and intubation, and how to manage potentially hazardous environments needing complex rescue and life-saving operations. By the end of the apprenticeship, you will understand the steps to take when assessing patients and the importance of promoting health and safety at the site of an accident.

Achievement of the standard makes you eligible for employment by any United Kingdom NHS Ambulance Service or other relevant organisation(s).
