Performing servicing and initial repairs to a range of vehicles
Overview
Approved for delivery on the 24/05/2018, the autocare technician, Intermediate apprenticeship standard provides a level 2, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 30 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
The autocare technician apprenticeship standard is designed to provide apprentices working in an auto-care or “fast-fit” garage with the knowledge and skills to perform a range of services and repairs on cars, vans and light goods vehicle.
You will develop your knowledge of the practical and theoretical aspects of vehicle systems and how to apply them to technical elements when carrying out repairs. You will learn how to use measuring diagnostic equipment to identify simple system faults, and use the correct tools to fix them, and perform detailed safety inspections and maintenance following manufacturers specifications and legal requirements.
You will experience working on various components of a vehicle, including steering and suspension, braking systems, battery and charging systems, exhaust systems and air-conditioning systems. You will also understand the fundamentals of tyre legislation, such as EU Tyre labelling, Tyre pressure systems and sidewall markings.
As an apprentice, you will need to always maintain a professional attitude as you represent your employer, and demonstrate excellent people skills as you communicate with customers and advise them on the how to care for their vehicle and of the mechanical issues you have identified.
