Overview
This Advanced automotive glazing technician apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 3, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 28/06/2018 and typically takes 36 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
An Automotive Glazing Technician performs repairs and replacements of windscreens on a range of vehicles and has the knowledge to routinely identify a customer’s requirements and take the best course of action whilst adhering to health and safety standards at all times. They could work independently or as part of a national chain of technicians, body repair shops or dealerships.
If you choose this apprenticeship, you will develop a grounded knowledge of the various terminology used in glazing operations, such as integral antennas, hydrophobic coasting and direct glazing, and understand how they can be applied to your work. You will understand the issues that can arise in the replacement of automotive glass, and how to take the proper procedures and precautions, keeping both you and the customer safe.
You will also be able to understand vehicle data, and use it to diagnose issues and faults, and be able to relay this information back to the customer using a well-mannered and understandable approach. You must be willing to continually develop your knowledge in-line with evolving technology in the automotive industry, and consistently work to a high standard as you deliver a quality service.
