Carrying out maintenance of aircraft in a military setting
Overview
This Intermediate aviation maintenance mechanic military apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 2, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 15/09/2016 and typically takes 18 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
On this apprenticeship, you will learn how to undertake a variety of maintenance and ground handling tasks for a range of military aircraft, including, passengers transport, helicopters and fighter jets, working in line with the operations of approved military organisations.
You will complete scheduled procedures to maintain and assess an aircraft’s safety, efficiency, and airworthiness, ensuring it complies with civil or military aviation regulations. Using the relevant tools and equipment for the job, you will learn to be able to detect defects and issues using a high level of knowledge, and utilise complex technical processes to rectify them, supporting other key workers in the industry in keeping a safe flow of air traffic at all times.
You will understand the fundamentals of Airframe Structural Inspection, and how to complete the relevant service and maintenance documentation. You will need a strong work ethic and self-motivation, as you develop the confidence to make your own decisions and make contributions towards your own personal development.
