Bespoke Tailor and Cutter

Designing and producing tailored clothes to meet customer requirements

Overview

The bespoke tailor and cutter was approved for delivery on 03/02/2016. This Higher apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 5, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 24 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

As a Bespoke Tailor and Cutter, you will manufacture clothing based on the individual requirements of a variety of clients and made to a unique specification. You will produce a large amount of your work by hand to fit precisely fit your customer’s measurements, and work on garments including coats, jackets, trousers, waistcoats, and skirts.

To complete the apprenticeship, you will need to be able to consistently follow detailed instructions from senior professionals and develop an understanding of the history of bespoke tailoring and the influence it has had on the clothing industry today, including exploring the heritage of Savile Row styling. You will also understand the properties and attributes of a variety of fabrics and materials used in the manufacturing process, and how to use a range of sewing and tailoring tools, such as seam rippers, rotary cutters, thread nippers and specialist scissors.

Under supervision, you will have overall responsibility for the outcome of a finished garment and learn to develop relationships with your clients and other industry workers. You will focus on customer satisfaction, and provide advice on the latest fashion trends and styles to recommend products.
