Broadcast and Media Systems Engineer (Degree)

Design and install broadcast and media technical system infrastructure

Overview

The broadcast and media systems engineer (degree) was approved for delivery on 24/09/2018. This Degree apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 6, integrated degree qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 36 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Whilst Broadcast and media systems engineers do not technically operate or produce TV or radio programmes, they do work to ensure they are broadcasted efficiently, on time, and to the highest quality using technical system infrastructure.

If you choose this apprenticeship, you will design and install a range of highly complex technical systems, help diagnose faults and then fix them. You will use your knowledge of audio and video systems, compression techniques and the principles of acoustics, lighting and vision to manage media systems such as Electronic Programme Guides (EPG), On Demand services, Automated Control, and remote-controlled equipment.

You will also learn how to recognise cybersecurity threats and assess the vulnerability of security practices in the workplace and your infrastructure, and take the relevant action to protect them. You will develop your knowledge of health and safety legislation and how to acquire the relevant permits for specific kinds of work, and how to provide technical advice and guidance where it is required.

The apprenticeship is a recognised qualification for membership of a Professional Engineering Institution and will enable you to register with the Engineering Council at either ICT Technician (ICTTech) or Engineering Technician (EngTech) level.
