Overview

This Advanced broadcast and media systems technical operator apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 3, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 07/06/2019 and typically takes 22 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

Working in a broadcast centre or TV/Radio studio operations centre for a production company or media services supplier, you will use software tools and broadcast equipment to provide support to film crew and systems engineer and ensure the delivery of a range of TV/radio programmes, streaming services, podcasts and pay-per-view content.

You will manage media assets and file-based content, and oversee the security set up to protect them from cyber-attacks of all kinds. You will also find faults in the infrastructure systems, know how to fix them or report them to the systems engineer or other technical professionals. You will learn to prepare the set up for broadcast and communications, such as adding subtitles or planning the studio environment, and monitor the transmission for consistency, working within Service Level Agreements (SLA) or company objectives.

You will develop a broad knowledge of communication networks and how they can be used to provide cost-effective and high-quality content for services such as live broadcasts, and the complete production process from studio to distribution. You will communicate clearly and with discretion where needed and have a systematic approach to solving any problems that may arise.
