Overview

Approved for delivery on the 27/02/2018, the business fire safety advisor, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 24 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Using your knowledge of health and safety procedures, you will support businesses by helping to protect their building or premises from fire by suggesting a range of alterations and implementing new safe-working practices.

You will understand how to collect the information and data of a building or premises when performing inspection visits, and assess it for fire risks, such as escape route, suitable detection equipment and emergency lighting. You will also understand the principles of chemical combustion, including fire growth rates on different materials used in the construction of buildings, and how quickly smoke can spread in a range of environments.

You will be able to recognise fire hazards in a range of industries and report your visit findings to the relevant people. You will learn how to advise and educate clients and stakeholders on how they can improve their risk reduction methods and maintenance routines, and know how to escalate a situation where needed. To do this, you will treat all people equally and have a conscientious approach to your work, as you complete assessments and projects within agreed timeframes.
