Overview

Approved for delivery on the 16/05/2019, the buying and merchandising assistant, Higher apprenticeship standard provides a level 4, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

In this role, you will assist a senior buyer or merchandiser by helping them select new products to sell in a range of high street retailers, department stores and online businesses. You will use forecast data and customer profiling to improve your organisation’s position within the market, both in the UK and overseas.

Undertaking this apprentice will see you use your knowledge of fashion trends and industry developments to place orders with suppliers and ensure they are available for sale in a timely manner. Working in collaboration with other buying and merchandising professionals, you will recommend new and existing products and then raise wholesale purchase orders with suppliers. You will also communicate with customers and use their feedback when presenting your proposals to senior buyers.

You will produce reports using analysis of sales, returns, and trading patterns, and use them to highlight opportunities to drive profits and venture into new markets. You will interact with a range of other industry workers, including product technologists, suppliers and distributors, as you work to ensure the agreed targets are achieved, and products are displayed without delay.
