Overview

This Advanced camera prep technician apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 3, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 10/07/2020 and typically takes 24 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

Working primarily within a media rental company, you will oversee the preparation and upkeep of camera and filming equipment for use in the production of TV programmes, adverts, documentaries, music videos, and others for a variety of media platforms.

You will ensure customers receive the items they need to produce high-quality content by delivering them on time and at the right filming location, configured with the appropriate accessories ready for use without any delay. You will liaise with clients to build individual media equipment packages of shooting equipment that meets their needs fully, and take responsibility for managing stock levels and resource availability.

You will use your knowledge to recommend specific camera types, lenses and peripherals to customers, and be able to provide assistance when required, including offering technical support or physically moving equipment when needed. You will need strong organisational skills as you keep accurate records of hired items and note any damages or imperfections upon their return, and develop the skills to be able to perform repairs such as replacement screens or replacement components.
