Chartered Town Planner (Degree)

Planning sustainable developments for homes and businesses

Overview

This Higher chartered town planner (degree) apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 7, non-integrated degree qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 22/03/2019 and typically takes 60 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

Working as a Chartered town planner, you will have to balance the needs of the local people and employers with the impact it would have on the environment, and ensure the project is sustainable and beneficial to the wider public.

You will help shape towns by preparing and submitting statutory planning applications for housing, commercial or industrial developments, transport infrastructure and conversation projects, as you use your knowledge of the ‘land use planning system’ in the UK and associated regulatory frameworks to advise clients on the viability of their proposals.

As an apprentice, you will gain experience engaging with stakeholders and customers to build positive relationships within the industry, and learn how spatial planning can support the effective use of land and its resources. You will also understand the role of planning law in relation to development projects, and the various mechanisms used in the process such as permissions, conditions, enforcement and appeals. You will also understand the importance of promoting ethical behaviour and professional competence, as you always maintain your integrity and honesty when faced with external pressures.
