Working with children, young people and families in a childcare setting

Overview

This Higher children, young people and families practitioner apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 4, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 29/06/2018 and typically takes 24 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship will give you valuable experience in the childcare sector, working in a range of settings with young people and their families, as you promote high-quality care and assess the complex needs of children.

You will be passionate about your work and consider the individual circumstances of each child as you build a care plan to keep them safe and encourage families to develop the skills to provide care themselves.

As part of the apprenticeship, you will choose from two pathways based on your job role:

    • Working with children, young people and families

This pathway is for practitioners working in a social care setting such as children’s home or special school, as you develop a placement plans and work with the child to safeguard their health, education and day to day needs.

    • Children, Young People and Families Practitioner within the Community

You will choose this pathway if you work in community childcare settings, such as nurseries or children’s centre, and understand how to manage risk and support child and their families overcome barriers and build independence.
