Overview

Approved for delivery on the 27/09/2019, the church minister (degree), Degree apprenticeship standard provides a level 6, integrated degree upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 36 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Working as a Church Minister, you will provide leadership to local churches and supervise the other practitioners in their work, oversee worship, preaching, pastoral care, facilitating faith development, and community activities.

You will understand the theory behind a variety of theological topics and their implications on contemporary faith and cultures, alongside the principles of safeguarding people, particularly vulnerable adults. You will learn ways in which the Bible can be used creatively and responsibly in religious activities and a range of religious practices.

Using strong communication skills, you will interact with other members of the church community, local councils and schools, as you promote the spiritual and emotional wellbeing of members and volunteers. You will use your leadership ability to provide efficient management to the church, including the implementation of its vision, strategy and tradition.

You will contribute towards the planning of a wide range of services, both regular life events such as weddings and funerals, and annual events such as Easter or Christmas, as you supervise paid staff and volunteers from the community.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, Church Ministers may be ordained in some denominations.
